Gain mastery in Texas Holdem Poker
Texas Holdem is considered a tuff game. Thus in order to become a master in it, you will have to play consistently with your best efforts combined with best strategy tips to play an efficient game. One you gain the mastery, there is no one to stop you from winning.
The ten easy steps to play Holdem Poker effectively include:
The Basic: The basic rule of the game is that it has to be started with 52 cards only, no fewer and no more. Holdem uses a combination of five cards, which no other card game does. The five-community card consists of cards with their faces up on the table so that all the players can share them. These cards are hole cards or pocket cards, which are used as the starting hands.
Hand Rankings: They refer to the rankings of hands. One, who possesses all the seven cards, consisting of the five-community card and two hole cards, wins the pot at the end, no matter how he uses those cards.
Example of Showdown Hands: For instance, Player 1 has two Aces (AA) with a king, Player 2 has a pair of aces (AA) with a queen, a second hand to player 1, Player 3 has three cards of the same kind, Player 4 has a nine, ten, and jack, and Player 5 has a diamond hand of the same suit on the board, which makes a flush and wins the pot.
The Button: In a round of betting, the button decides the order of play. Button is a kind of marker which is visible to all players and that rotates between the players in a clockwise direction before actually starting every new hand.
The Blinds: Blinds are small forced bets to make sure that every single pot possesses some value to it. In Holdem, the players on the left side of the button are required to place the blinds only after the first round of betting is over.
Betting Rounds: After the buttons are rotated and the blinds are placed, the round of betting begins. The first betting round starts with the hole cards in place. After the first round of betting, the flop betting round starts with three of the five-community cards in play. In the next round of betting, an additional community card is played. Finally, in the river betting round, all the five community cards are played on the board.
Actions: A player has got five options to start with his act of playing cards. These are call, bet, check, fold and raise. A call refers to the process of matching a bet made previously. When you make a bet, it means you are putting your money into stake, while at the same time adding it to the pot. The term ‘fold’ refers to withdrawing from the pot for not calling any bets or raises made so far. ‘Raising’ refers to the process of increasing the amount of betting. Lastly, checking refers to the situation when a player makes a move if no bets are left to be played with, and the player passes the action to his opponent in turn.
More on Actions: Once all the players have matched the bet with the highest amount or have either made a fold, the round of betting does not end. Thereafter, all the chips on stake are added to the pot and again a new betting round begins.
Limits: All tables in poker have certain limits attached to them that determine the amounts of the forced limit. Usually the small blind is the half the value of the big blind.
No Limit: In Holdem, no-limit game is the most popular variant. No-limit means that any player can either bet or raise an amount anytime limited by the amount of stacks in front of him. In limit game, the bets and raises are limited to the level of blinds.
